Yes, we get paid. Here's exactly how.
Every site says this in six-point grey at the bottom. Ours is a whole page, because the entire premise here is that you deserve to know what a thing costs and who's getting a cut.
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we get a commission from the retailer. You pay exactly the same price. Nothing is ever marked up because we sent you.
Who pays us
- Amazon Associates. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
- Memorial and urn retailers. Direct affiliate arrangements with sellers of urns, ashes jewellery and keepsakes.
- Display advertising, if and when we run it. Ads are labelled and are not editorial.
What the money does not buy
A commission does not buy a good review. If a $400 urn is a $60 vase with a lid and a grief tax, we will say so on the page, with the affiliate link still sitting right there, because you might want it anyway and that is your business.
No brand gets copy approval. No brand sees a review before it publishes. If somebody sends us a product free, we say so in that piece, in the piece, not in a footer.

Why we’re being this loud about it
Because the industry we write about built itself on the opposite. On not itemising. On the package price. On letting you assume the embalming was required when it usually is not. If we are going to spend our days pulling that apart, we do not get to be vague about our own till.
